FAQ

How many classes does AION 2 have at global launch?
Eight — Gladiator, Templar, Assassin, Ranger, Sorcerer, Spiritmaster, Cleric and Chanter. A ninth class, the Brawler, was added with Chapter 1 on July 1, 2026 but is currently exclusive to the Korean and Taiwanese servers.
What is the best class for beginners in AION 2?
Community consensus points to Gladiator as the most forgiving pick: a greatsword melee DPS with strong solo sustain. Templar is the other beginner-friendly pick if you prefer tanking.
Is Ranger called Marksman in AION 2?
No. The global version uses Ranger. "Marksman" is a mistranslation that circulated on some fan sites; the class wields a bow in either case.
Which AION 2 class heals?
Cleric is the main healer. Chanter is the hybrid support — buffs and off-healing — making both the backbone of any dungeon party.
Does AION 2 have class changes or subclasses?
NCSOFT describes classes as customizable to fit your playstyle via chain skills, but the launch build has no subclass system comparable to the original AION's stigma trees. Details will be confirmed in game at launch.

A sorceress unleashing a radiant magical blast in a twilight village

AION 2’s global build launches with eight classes, split across the classic MMO roles of tank, healer, support, melee DPS and ranged DPS. Each class is built around the game’s aerial combat — NCSOFT says every fight is “a decision, not a rotation,” and the class you pick changes how you use altitude, positioning and skill chains.

Here is the complete class list with roles, weapons and what to expect from each, based on official class previews and a year of Korean-server play.

Melee classes

Gladiator — greatsword DPS

The Gladiator is the class most recommended for new players. It deals sustained melee damage with a greatsword, cleaves through dungeon packs, and survives solo content better than any other DPS. Korean-server tier lists have consistently rated it at or near the top for PvE — see our tier list for the full rankings.

Templar — the tank

Templar is the only pure tank in AION 2’s launch roster. Sword and shield in hand, it holds aggro in the game’s 5-player and 10-player dungeons and is considered mandatory for serious group content. In PvP it anchors formations and protects healers.

Assassin — burst and stealth

The dagger-wielding Assassin hunts burst windows, closing gaps to unload combos and retreating before the answer lands. It is repeatedly cited as one of the strongest PvP classes on the Korean servers, at the cost of being fragile and demanding to pilot.

Ranged classes

Ranger — bow DPS

Ranger is AION 2’s archer, fighting from range with a bow while the game’s vertical combat lets it exploit altitude. Community rankings describe it as one of the most consistent all-around damage classes for raids, dungeons and world bosses — a safe main for players who want strong performance across all content.

Sorcerer — magic nukes

The Sorcerer throws cast-time spellbook nukes and area damage. High burst, high skill expression, and a repeat pick in PvP tier lists alongside Assassin. If you enjoy casting bars and big numbers, this is the class.

Spiritmaster — the summoner

Spiritmaster commands spirits to apply steady pressure and crowd control. It plays the long game — pets tank, distract and harass while the master repositions. Details on specific spirit kits at the global launch should be confirmed in game, as NCSOFT has tuned summons repeatedly during the Korean year.

Healer and support

Cleric — the healer

No dungeon clears without one. Cleric is AION 2’s main healer, with sustained healing, cleanses and resurrection. Korean PvE rankings keep it in the top band alongside Ranger and Gladiator because demand never drops.

Chanter — buffs and off-healing

Chanter is the hybrid support: staff damage, mantra buffs and backup healing. In a 5-player party it plugs the gap when the Cleric is overwhelmed; in a 10-player raid multiple Chanters stack different mantras. Players who like being wanted but not carrying green bars alone tend to land here.

The ninth class: Brawler (Korea & Taiwan only)

The Brawler joined AION 2 with the Chapter 1 update on July 1, 2026 — but only on the Korean and Taiwanese servers. There is no confirmed global release date for it. When NCSOFT announces the global Brawler (or a tenth class), this list and the tier list will be updated.

How to choose your class

Three quick questions settle it for most players:

  1. Do you play mostly solo? Gladiator — sustain plus cleave makes solo dungeons and questing smooth.
  2. Do you want fast queues and a guaranteed raid spot? Templar, Cleric or Chanter — tanks and healers are permanently in demand for the 200+ dungeons.
  3. Do you live for PvP? Assassin and Sorcerer lead the community’s PvP picks; Ranger travels well between PvE and PvP.

For a deeper dive with community rankings, see the AION 2 tier list, and for what to do in your first week after picking, the beginner guide has your route.

All roles and weapons above follow official class previews and Korean-server community consensus; individual skill numbers will be verified against the global client at launch and marked as such when they are.
